James Corden, the British-born comedian who got his big break in the US, announced his departure from his own show The Late Late Show with James Corden in April 2022.
After 7 years as the host and many memorable moments and segments such as Carpool Karaoke which saw celebrities singing to their favourite songs with Corden, people are wondering why the TV host decided to suddenly leave his profitable production.
Lately, some stories have come out that paint Corden in not so favourable light and many believe that there is something more to his exit than he lets us believe. This article will dig deeper into these claims.
Corden’s Reason for Leaving
Before we begin discussing various stories and theories as to why Corden is leaving, it’s only fair to start with his version of events. Corden shared that the show has taken a massive toll on him and his family due to the busy schedule.
Corden said that his three children are growing up so fast and that he can’t always spend time with them, noting how he had to cancel family vacations because of work clashes. He said that his older relatives also need his attention and that he’s ready for a quieter life in his native Britain.
Additionally, Corden said that he never expected to be a host for that long. He thought he’d only spend five years at the job, despite the fact that US TV hosts tend to have long careers. Corden thought that he’d get bored at some point and thought he should better leave before that happens.
Gossip About Corden’s Exit
Now that we heard Corden’s reasons for leaving, let’s dive into the juicy stuff.
James Corden has always had an aura of a funny lovable guy, which is one of the reasons why he was so well received everywhere. Corden became famous as one of the lead writers and actors in the hit British show Gavin and Stacey. He later joined A League of Their Own, a sports show where the hosts provide funny commentary.
This won Corden fame over the pond as well, which enabled him to make the transition and replace Craig Ferguson as a host for The Late Late Show. Viewers immediately fell in love with his down-to-earth persona and they loved his original segments like Carpool Karaoke and Spill Your Guts.
However, recently, some stories started popping up about Corden, revealing the fun guy persona was just a façade. For instance, Corden took place in a Reddit Ask-me-anything event and some users who’ve allegedly met him had very unsavory stories to tell.
One user said that Corden mistreated staff at an English restaurant and became aggressive toward them. Another used said they went to a live taping of A League of Their Own and said that James had tantrums directed at production staff and later refused to mingle or take pictures with any members of the audience.
In addition, someone else shared that they saw Corden acting out on a plane, berating his wife and refusing to help her calm their baby. On top of it all, another redditor shared a story about Corden showing up to a writers meeting for The Late Late Show arguing that writers should get lower wages. Yikes.
While none of these stories can be proven for a fact, Corden’s diva personality has been witnessed as well. Most recently, the owner of Balthazar, a New York restaurant, fired at Corden who yelled and berated staff because he found egg white in his yolk omelette and even asked for free drinks. Corden later apologized, but this just goes on to show how he acts in private.
In another instance, Corden got really mad with Patrick Stewart who criticised Corden for his indifference when presenting the Glamour awards. Corden proceeded to get really close to Stewart, telling him he can see him die on stage right now. This could have been a funny joke, but Corden’s tone and body language made it seem otherwise.
These are just some of the stories we thought of on top of our heads, but they made us think that Corden saw that the public opinion of him had drastically changed and he decided to step back on his own terms. We do believe that he pulled an Ellen, the disgraced TV host stepped down this year after allegations of abuse towards staff and her guests.
However, there is perhaps hope for Corden now that everyone is telling him to tune it down and act nicely. He himself has admitted that fame has changed him, after friends and family confronted him about his behaviour. He apparently even went to “celebrity rehab” to work on his issues.
All we can say is that we wish James Corden the best in the UK and hope these therapy sessions helped him realise his questionable behaviour.
