Wyclef Jean Haiti president from Fugee beginnings? The musician who remixed the BeeGee’s “Staying Alive” into “We Tryin’ to Stay Alive” has embarked on a long road to Haiti’s presidency. The musician reported to CNN that he “can’t sing forever” and since he’s already earned enough money from his musical career, he’s in a great place to fight corruption of his homeland.
In 2008, Jean founded the Yele Haiti Foundation. The organization had a massive impact on assisting Haitians following the devastating January 2010 earthquake. The organization has assisting in HIV/AIDS education, opened schools, fed the hungry, and created jobs for thousands. Despite the charity’s accomplishments, speculation abounds that Jean mishandled day to day operations and had lax bookkeeping skills. Jean also has been accused of paying his mistress $105,000 dollars through the Yele Haiti Foundation.
