Not surprisingly, the number one movie at the box office this weekend was the much anticipated Twilight.
The movie sucked in $70.6 million this weekend which made it the biggest opening ever for a female director. (The last record was held by Mimi Leder’s “Deep Impact” in 1998 which brought in $41.1 million.)
Fans who loved this movie based on Stephenie Meyer’s novel will be excited to know that production is a go for the next book in the series “New Moon.”
Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart will return as its star-crossed lovers, but whether director Catherine Hardwicke will be at the helm again is still being determined.
“I want to be sure that it’s going to be done right. I don’t want to rush into it,” she said. “It’s not like `Friday the 13th’ or `Halloween,’ you can’t just do it super fast and knock another one out. I want to understand their plans and all that.”
