Prince Harry, 24, took to the skies yesterday in an attempt to prove that he has what it takes to become a helicopter pilot.
The Prince was just beginning a month-long course that will assess his flying abilities through more than 13 hours logged in the bright yellow Slingsby Firefly plane.
Harry hopes to become an elite member of pilots that fly Apache attack helicopters but with a 50 percent failure rate for those attempting this feat, he has a battle ahead.
One insider at the Army Air Corps’ base in Middle Wallop, Wilts, said: “The Grading process is used to weed out those who do not possess the natural qualities needed to become a helicopter pilot. Just because Harry is a Royal in no way guarantees he will get through the next month.
“It may simply be the case that he does not have the coordination to make the grade.”
Harry hopes to be invited to take the 18-month helicopter training course which begins in January.
Older brother Prince William will also be taking chopper pilot training in January for the Royal Navy’s Search and Rescue team.
