MTVNews has revealed their 9 of their top 10 ladies of 2008 and will announce number 1 on Thursday. Check out who claimed the nine spots.
10. Beyonce: Let’s see, she got married to longtime boyfriend Jay-Z….released the double album I Am….Sasha Fierce with two of the singles “If I Were A Boy” and “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” hitting the top of the charts…..donated $100,000 to Hurricane Ike victims….and she earned her third Golden Globe nomination of “Best Original Song” for her latest film Cadillac Records. Now if only we can master that “Single Ladies” dance!
9. Hayley Williams: She’s the chick from the band Paramore….the band kicked off the year with a New Year’s Eve performance on MTV….hit the stage for a performance at the MTV Video Music Awards….and they contributed two songs to the Twilight soundtrack.
8. Rihanna: Ever since that bob got her noticed and made a statement that women everywhere wanted to copy, Rihanna has been rising higher in her fame. She won her first Grammy….released the hit singles “Take a Bow” and “Disturbia”…..continued to deny her relationship with Chris Brown despite being photographed a lot with him by her side….and performed at the MTV Video Music Awards.
7. Aubrey O’Day: She started the year as a member of the girl group Danity Kane but was kicked out before the year was over….played the role of Amber Von Tussle in Broadway’s Hairspray…and she posed quite provocatively in Complex magazine but didn’t exactly ooze hotness. She’ll be in Playboy before we know it and then will gain 75 pounds, become addicted to a substance (pick your favorite) and will resurface in 3.4 years saying that she’s going to turn her life around.
6. Sasha Fierce: Yep, Beyonce made the list on her own accord and so did her alter-ego. That was Fierce you saw in the “Single Ladies” video with the Terminator-esque metal glove and she’s rumored to be dating Chris Gaines.
5. Katy Perry: The girl behind the “I Kissed A Girl” hit that made cherry chapstick and lesbian-ness cool….she’s also dating or engaged to depending on your news source Gym Class Heroes Travis McCoy….and she’s nominated for a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. What other quasi-taboo topic should she cover next? “I voted for McCain and I liked it….” Hmm…not as catchy.
4. Miley Cyrus: She’s on top of the world and she just turned 16 (like 15 times) this year…..came out with that Hannah Montana movie and pulled in a buttload of money (yes, that’s the official term for it)….then she broke up with a Jonas Brother and started dating a mom and dad approved 20-year-old underwear model Justin Gaston….nominated for a Grammy for Best Song (that song she sang with John Travolta in Bolt)….and there was that whole naked/Vanity Fair picture scandal that rocked the tabloids. This girl isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Sorry.
3. Taylor Swift: The 19-year-old had a big year of voting for the first time….dating one of the Jonas Brothers, getting her heart broken and then getting the ultimate revenge by beating them in album sales when she released Fearless. Warning boys: don’t dump her via a 25-second phone call or you’ll be shamed all over the news!
2. Britney Spears: Well duh, she had a big year of headline grabbing events like that time she locked herself in the bathroom with one of her young sons and then had to be strapped down and taken to the hospital…I just hate when that happens. But don’t worry because she is out to prove that she’s over her wild cut loose days and she’s again focused on her music and sons. Thank goodness! Everyone loves a train wreck that recovers and bounces back to do great things again. Maybe she should ring Amy Winehouse.
So number 1 will be announced tomorrow and I just can’t decide who will take the top spot.
