Olympic hero, Michael Phelps, returned to the University of Michigan on Saturday, he attended school there from 2004 to 2008, to be honored with fellow Olympians tied to the school.
Phelps, 23, sported a number 8 jersey as a nod to his record-breaking 8 gold medals he earned at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
“It feels good to be back,” he said Saturday. “It feels good to be back in the maize and blue.”
Phelps sports two tattoos – Olympic rings and a block “M” – and says that living in Ann Arbor, Michigan taught him many new things like how to wash dishes and do laundry.
“Coming here and living here for four years taught me a lot, and I’m thankful for the experiences I had here because they changed my life,” Phelps said. “I wanted to get that as a memory of something that really changed my life.”
Phelps has yet to slow down after his incredible win in Beijing and has been in London, was honored by a parade at Disney World, hosted Saturday Night Live and attended the MTV Video Music Awards where he says he was star struck by Demi Moore introducing herself and inviting the swimmer to dinner after the show.
“I’m living a dream,” he said.
But there is something big that hasn’t happened yet: “I still haven’t met [Michael] Jordan.”
