Mad Men’s Kiernan Shipka Incites Outrage With Masturbation Scene
Sunday night’s episode of Mad Men is creating quite a stir. The August 22, 2010 episode of the hit series touched upon a delicate subject involving self pleasure and eleven year old actress Kiernan Shipka’s character Sally Draper.
Creators insist that the masturbation scene was to bring about “enlightenment” to illustrate there’s no shame in self pleasure. The far reaching effects of the scene have been likened to “demonizing female sexuality” by some, pedophile fodder to some, and outright child exploitation by others.
The scene centers around Sally’s mother’s angst, misplaced blame onto Sally’s father Don, and failure to understand her Sally’s precocious behavior, evoking the threat to “cut off her fingers.”
