You may not know his name but you know his music. Legendary composer John Barry has died at the age of 77. Barry was responsible for film scores that shaped a generation, including Dances With Wolves, The Lion In Winter, Out Of Africa, Midnight Cowboy and of course his work on the James Bond series.

Fellow composer, David Arnold tweeted about Barry’s passing saying, “It is with a heavy heart that I tell you that John Barry passed away this morning. I am profoundly saddened by the news but profoundly thankful for everything he did for music and for me personally.”

Barry took home 5 Oscars for his work and was nominated for a total of 7 Academy Awards.

I didn’t realize that all the above were composed by him…but I didn’t see the credit for “Somewhere in Time”…Thanks for the update. He will be missed very much!

“His sound style will love forever”
The melody for “You Only Live Twice” is one of my favorite things ever
