Ellen DeGeneres took a few moments from her show today, to thank JCPenney for not backing down from opposition, after they company announced last week the comedian/talk show host would be representing the company.
Ellen, who will be the new face of JCPenney, came under attack last week after a conservative website, OneMillionMoms, called for the department store to remove Ellen as the face of the company, citing a lack of traditional values. JCPenney has decided to stay with Ellen and the talk show host took a few moments to publically thank them.
Ellen did receive some public support today, from a very unlikely source. Conservative television host, Bill O’Reilly called the movement to remove Ellen a “witch hunt” w”What is the difference between the McCarthy era of the ’50s and the Million Moms saying, ‘Hey, JCPenney and all you other stores, don’t you hire any gay people. Don’t you dare.’ What is the difference?,” O’Reilly asked.
Ellen did acknowledge the support, tweeting a message of thanks to Bill.
